G. Claire Roberts, LCSW - Online Counseling and Online Psychotherapy in Palo Alto, CaliforniaMy name is Claire Roberts, and I’m a licensed psychotherapist offering online counseling, online psychotherapy and EMDR therapy throughout the State of California.

If you have been in therapy before, you may know what a positive, life-changing process it can be.

However, if you are like many of the people who approach me for help every day, after months or even years of therapy, you may still be looking for a therapist who can effectively help you get the kind of breakthroughs you have been waiting to experience, often for a long time.

Unfortunately, finding a highly-skilled therapist who knows how to fully and effectively treat issues such as trauma, anxiety, panic attacks, and depression can be challenging.

In fact, many of my clients come to me having undergone years or even decades of therapy, yet still have been unable to fully resolve their issues. If that is you, I believe you have come to the right place and I can help.

As someone who has suffered from both childhood and adult trauma myself, I know full well the devastating toll traumatic or otherwise deeply disturbing experiences can take on a person’s life.

I also know that many of the challenges we face in life often have some form of trauma at their core, and that lasting healing can occur in a matter of weeks or months instead of years when we address the past experiences that are driving current symptoms.

How?

As I like to look at it, there are two basic approaches in psychotherapy: either “top down” or “bottom up.”

Most types of psychotherapy have, historically at least, employed “top down” techniques such as CBT (cognitive behavior therapy), DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), psychodynamic approaches, and so on.

Using a lot of what I call “regular talk therapy,” the main idea behind “top down” approaches is to change the way a person thinks about their lives in order to change their behaviors and emotions. Sometimes homework is given. Typically, some progress is made, but it is slow and unfortunately issues never fully resolve.

In contrast, these days increasing numbers of mental health practitioners like myself are becoming trained in what I call “bottom up” techniques such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Image Transformation Therapy (ImTT).

These types of “bottom up” approaches enable therapists to work with their clients at the level of the unconscious mind, bringing about complete, deep, relatively fast and long lasting healing that then filters up automatically into a person’s conscious thoughts and behaviors.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as described in Bessel Van Der Kolk’s book, The Body Keeps the Score, is my preferred treatment modality.

I first trained in EMDR in 2005 when it was still a relatively unknown approach and have been using it with the vast majority of my clients ever since with consistently excellent results. However, I often do not start here. Let me explain why …

The reason for this is I find that many people seeking help are struggling with one or more very powerful negative emotions that are interfering with their ability to function in daily life. In this regard, I am also trained in a much lesser known approach known as Image Transformation Therapy (ImTT) – also a “bottom up” approach – that is quick and easy to do and can offer immediate relief, even in the first session!

Sounds too good to be true? Many people have this very understandable initial response and I do not blame you for being skeptical. I was initially highly skeptical as well, and sometimes I am still amazed by how well this works. However, I have been using Image Transformation Therapy for about seven or eight years now, and it typically works that well and that quickly.

But don’t just take my word for it. I challenge you to book just one session with me to give it a try and see for yourself!

If I can show you within the first couple of sessions that I can help you in a very tangible way, my hope is this will give you all the motivation to continue doing the work necessary for you to finally wake up each morning feeling excited about the day ahead.

Ready to get started?

Just remember, the choice is yours …

You can keep doing the same things that haven’t been working … that are, in fact, making your life miserable. Or you can try something different, and feel genuinely hopeful again. All I ask is for you to make a commitment to yourself and to work with me for two to three sessions before making up your mind.

When you’re ready to gain clarity, reclaim control, and create the joyous and fulfilling relationships and life you know are possible, contact me at 650-680-7124 or claire@gclaireroberts.com to schedule an initial consultation and find out how the virtual counseling and online psychotherapy services I offer can help you.

I commend you for your courage, and I look forward to working with you and helping in any and every way I can!
